ABOUT US, the RCA & BRC

The Reformed Church in America (RCA) is “a fellowship of congregations called by God and empowered by the Holy Spirit to be the very presence of Jesus Christ in the world”. Our predecessor, the Dutch Reformed Church, began in 16th century Europe as an outgrowth of the Reformation and was brought to this country by early Dutch settlers. Today, the RCA has congregations throughout the United States and Canada and mission programs throughout the developing world.

The Reformed Faith, to which we adhere, is centered in Christ. We believe
our every need finds its answer in Jesus Christ. We believe in the authority of Holy Scripture, the living Word of God, spoken to everyone through the Holy Spirit of God. And we believe that the Holy Spirit takes the Word of God and makes it real, actual and relevant in our lives. This is the essence of the Reformed faith.

The Brookdale Reformed Church (BRC) (originally known as the
Reformed Dutch Church at Stone House Plains) celebrated its first worship service in a local barn in 1795. Construction of the first church building began in 1802 and was completed in 1808. Pastor Susan Dorward, 32nd  in a long succession of pastors, is our current spiritual leader. It is our heartfelt prayer, having been entrusted with this ministry, to faithfully follow in the steps of our forbearers, “to be the very presence of Jesus Christ in the world” here in Bloomfield,

For God so loved the world that he gave his only and unique Son, so that everyone who trusts in him may have eternal life, instead of being utterly destroyed.

For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but rather so that through him, the world might be saved. (John 3:16-17 (CJB)
